The Greatest Miracle on DVD: Nov. 27 Release

The Greatest Miracle, the animated feature that tells a story of hope and faith against the backdrop of angels and demons, is set for DVD release on Nov. 27 by Arc Entertainment.

This captivating movie provides audiences with a fascinating unique look at the miracle that is the Roman Catholic Mass. The plot centers on three people who find themselves at the same Catholic Mass because of crises they are struggling to endure. Going to Mass is not new to any of them – but they need help to embrace its true meaning. What they experience during that Mass changes all of their lives forever.

“The film fulfills its mission, helping people embrace the Eucharist with more of their heart, soul, mind and strength,” said Randy Sly of Catholic Online.

Audiences will see for themselves on Nov. 27, when The Greatest Miracle releases on DVD. Pre-order the film now from Ignatius Press (www.Ignatius.com), or buy it on release day in stores nationwide. The Greatest Miracle is produced by Pablo Jose Barroso of Dos Corazones Productions, producer of the epic action adventure on Mexico’s Cristero War, For Greater Glory.

Hailed for its powerful and inspiring message, The Greatest Miracle masterfully portrays the invisible realities of the Catholic faith.

The Most Rev. David Ricken, Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, Wis., hails the film and its message. “The Greatest Miracle draws the viewer into the Mass by artistically portraying what we as Catholics believe to be taking place, but what we as humans are incapable of perceiving with our earthly senses,” Bishop Ricken said. “May we take from The Greatest Miracle an exhortation to participate more fully and more regularly in the Mass – a tremendous gift to the Church and indeed, to all humanity.”

“In that the film portrays our Guardian angels, how they help us, and how they bring our petitions and offerings to Heaven, I give the film two big thumbs up,” said Tim Drake of the National Catholic Register.

The Greatest Miracle is directed by Bruce M. Morris, the visual writer of the animated hits Pocahontas and Hercules. He earned an Academy Award® nomination for his work on 2009’s The Princess and the Frog. Oscar®-nominee Mark McKenzie, who orchestrated the score for Dances with Wolves, wrote the score for the film, which earned the 2011 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Score – Independent Film/Short/Documentary. McKenzie’s work also includes Men in Black, Spiderman and Ice Age: The Meltdown.

New Video Series for Catholic Families and Schools

Homeschool Connections, the original source for online video courses for Catholic families, announces the release of the first DVD of the Catholic History Video Project. The Project is a series of teaching DVDs explaining the Catholic Church’s contributions in history. The DVDs are designed for individuals and families and are appropriate for both home and schools, with content suitable for all ages.

Families benefit from the DVDs’ ability to help children understand faith as it relates to history and the Church. Homeschools and private schools benefit from the DVDs’ strong educational curriculum, meeting the need for teaching foundational history, as it relates to the Church.

The Catholic History Video Project was created by Homeschool Connections high school history teacher, Phillip Campbell. Phillip combines a love of history with the Catholic faith, adding a quirky sense of humor and creativity to the documentary-style DVDs. The result is a documentary that is both fun and informational.

The first DVD, Origins of Christian Monasticism, is complete and available for mail order. This DVD focuses on the historical contribution of monasticism – the way of life that involves renouncing worldly pursuits to fully devote one's self to spiritual work – during the Early Middle Ages. Widespread distribution is scheduled for November 2012.

Script and story boards are completed for the next video in the series, which focuses on the Conquistadors, and filming has begun. The second DVD’s release is planned for the spring of 2013. Surviving Depression: A Catholic Approach

Pauline Books & Media is excited to announce the release of Surviving Depression: A Catholic Approach, Updated and Expanded Edition. Originally published in 2003, the English edition has sold 25,000 copies and has been translated into 12 languages. This newest addition to the “Catholic Approach” line, which tackles everyday topics and offers solutions rooted in Catholic faith and values, is written by Kathryn J. Hermes, FSP, a best-selling author of spirituality titles and a survivor of depression herself. Responding to contemporary international, national, and ecclesial acknowledgements—post 9/11 unrest, prevalent natural disasters, engagement in war, and clergy sex abuse scandals—the updates in this book provide a grounded reality with which to approach depression in today’s age. An entirely new section, “8 Steps to Inner Peace,” offers insightful scriptural reflections and a step-by-step practical guide to finding peace. Suzanne Mayer, IHM, PhD, coordinator of Pastoral and Theological Studies at Neumann University reflects on this new edition, stating: “This tenth anniversary revision features a new sense of the even more complicated world in which her readers live and the even more distressing weights that rest upon them. The new second part provides a clear, lived-out eight step process inviting a contemplative stance acquired, as the author evidences, not by efforts to battle depression as an antagonist, but by coming out from under it.” For additional information or to request a review copy of Surviving Depression, please contact Ariana Tantillo at (617) 676-4490 ext. 4179 or e-mail atantillo@paulinemedia.com.
